New Abstracts

I have continued to enjoy more and more using the digital painting medium. allows me to explore with no use of materials and try new ideas. At the same time I will never break away from using traditional mediums. Just recently I obtained funds to go and do some decent art supply shopping. I will be diving into those supplies soon and posting work as I progress through these new ideas.

Hobo Boxers

The last of the hobo boxer sketches I was doing. There were other ideas but I had other projects I felt were more important than these sketches.

digital abstract 10

Sunday morning quickie, working on staying simple and quick with rendering. I wanted to force a time constraint on the length of time I spent on this piece. See what could be accomplished in only 2 hours or so. I am also trying to stay limited on the amount of color I use to keep myself thinking how to keep the balance and movement without expanding the color range.

New digital abstract painting. I have been trying to explore more movement in my forms even though they still have geometric attributes I feel they are taking on more of an organic pattern and flow.

Hobo Boxers

I grew up in Ventura California, a nice beach town with a pretty big homeless population due to a variety of factors, alcohol, drug abuse and mental illness. Spending a lot of time roaming the streets in downtown and the beach surfing you cross paths with a lot of the people that live on the street, each very colorful and unique. There will be several posts about this as I have a few illustrations in this series.

New Abstract Sketches

I need to refresh my paint and canvas supply, so the easy way to make things stretch a bit is for me to work on some smaller quicker pieces. I usually will take one of my small sketches and repaint as a full size painting. These are either 7x7 or 6x4 on hemp paper using the palette knife or dry brush technique with only 3 colors and white.

Ode to a Best Friend

My first dog brandy, we rescued her from the ojai humane society way back in 2000 when my wife worked there, she lived with us until october 15 2012 the same day that zipper koko cattanach came into the world to secure a new place in our hearts. brandy was the best dog i could have asked for and made us happy for 12 some years.

illustration by Ron Lipking when we worked together, i was so excited about getting brandy i am sure it was all anyone ever heard about when around me.

Skizo Illustrations

Below is a group of newer images the girls were supposed to be pin up girl stickers for a company that dropped the ball on the project. The other pieces are sketchbook works that were taken to ink and the halfwit bull head was taken to color painted in photoshop.

Does it anger you when you are stuck behind drivers that don't pay attention. This rant for a magazine is focused on that situation.

Dating With Kids

This is another piece for the Las Vegas magazine I did a short time back. This was one of the forum pages where they posted a topic and addressed it from both the male and female point of view. This was discussing dating a divorced person who had kids. The illustration above was for her kids.

Abstracts Traditional and Digital

Here are two recent abstracts I have finished in the other day. The digital piece allows me to work outside of materials I don't have right now, like paint variety. The traditional is meant to have a marine or oceanic feel to it.

Abstract canvas work 2013

This is the most recent of completed abstract work. I had to take a break due to over use, injury from that and a creative recharge. I am trying to break from the geometric constructs of my old abstract style.

storybook style

I am currently working on finishing the illustrations for a children's book I wrote a fair time ago and want to publish myself as there are more options now than when I first wrote the book and would have had to get it published by a entity. This piece is a practice piece where I am starting in photoshop with large loose brush strokes and getting the layout down then slowly bringing that into focus. The edges of the character and horizon are very loose and non defined to add a soft focus and dream like feel.
The child chasing the lost kite in the wind is my idea of how we all try to regain our youth and childhood but as natures clock only moves forward, our attempts of being really young again are as effective as chasing a kite in the wind.

These are some of the more recent abstract paintings i have done. I am trying to break out of the geometric arrangements and get a bit more organic flow to my forms and brush strokes. working on levels of texture on some of the newer works.
